We went to Lucknow to visit my grand parents. During our stay we went to visit famous monuments of the city. The one I liked the most was Bara Imambada
Our guide Mr. Majid gave us interesting facts and stories about this monument
This monument was built by Nawab Asaf-ud-daula in 1785-1791. It was a Mughal design.
It is 15m high and there are no beams supporting the ceiling. It is one of the largest such arched construction in the world.
There are 8 surrounding chambers built to different heights.
It was built using sugarcane juice, bel pulp, crushed red bricks and urad daal.
The most interesting part of the monument was the Bhul Bhulaia which is like a maze with many paths but only on leads to the exit.
The British attacked the monument in 1857 and took away the precious items. The Nawab's cashier jumped into the well to protect the treasures. No one has found the treasure till now.
After an interesting day we went back to our grandparents home
