  • Slavery Boxes
  • I think slavery is inhumane and unfair.
  • Well, Slavery helps the economy and the south is allowed to have slaves.
  • Slavery Boxes
  • You are not a free slave. You belong to the Emersons.
  • Yes I am. I am in a free state.
  • States' Rights
  • I think that we should all follow the same rules set forth by the president.
  • No, We should be free to make our own decisions as states.
  • The dispute over slavery caused the civil war because a couple years before the civil war there were sectional conflicts on slave issue.
  • States' Rights
  • We will secede from the union.
  • The Dred Scott case and Bleeding Kansas made the dispute over slavery to intensify. Dred Scott, Harriett Scott, John Brown, and Abraham Lincoln were people at the heart over the disputes involving slavery.
  • Compromise Boxes
  • You can't cross the 36 30 parallel sir.
  • Northern states believed that in order to function as one union all states needed to follow the same rules set forth by the president. While southern states believed in more state authority. This meant that each state should be free to make there own decisions based on what there state needs. Many Georgians did not want to secede from the union, while others thought secession is necessary. The divide in GA was mainly between small farmers and non-slave holders, against large farmers and slave holders who had a social and economic stake in the continuation of slavery.
  • Compromise Boxes
  • In 1832, South Carolina nullified the tariffs and threatened to secede from the union. President Andrew Jackson threatened to attack South Carolina if they attempted to leave the union, but to avoid conflict, the us government backed off and lowered the tariff. Sectionalism was the north trying to protect it's manufacturing industry by imposing tariffs. The south was feeling that tariffs favored Northern-manufacturing interests at the expense of the southern farmers.
  • If you secede, my crew will attack you.
  • The compromises that created less tension were the Missouri compromise,Compromise of 1850, and the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Georgia was involved in some of these compromises because Georgia approved the Compromise of 1850 because of the Fugitive Slave Act.
  • Okay I am fine with that.
  • The event that occurred that eventually caused the southern states to secede was the Election of 1860. The Election of 1860 was when Abraham Lincoln became president and the southern states believed his goal was to end slavery. S o they seceded from the union.
  • I thank you for the honor of being your new president.
