  • La Rupa, Honduras during a Category 5 hurricane. A category 5 hurricane hits La Rupa, Honduras. Which triggered a mudslide. As the setting is in La Rupa a hilly region in Honduras a hurricane sent mud down the hilly and decimated the village. The main character Jose is thinking “I try not to let anyone see me looking scared.”
  • I'm not scared at all mom!
  • In Jose’s house at night while the hurricane is happening. Fearful, as a terrible hurricane is going on. Due to a hurricane happening it is causing it to be fearful that something bad may happen at any moment, which builds on to the mood being fearful. “In the darkness, just waking up from my dream, I am confused. The earth quivers under my bed. “In the darkness, just waking up from my dream, I am confused. The earth quivers under my bed.

  • Jose’s house during a category 5 hurricane. Jose’s mother tells Jose he has to go outside of their home to go look for survivors caught in the mudslide. Even though he doesn't want too. Due to the setting being at Jose’s house during a category 5 hurricane, Jose does not want to go out and look for survivors, but he agrees with his mother's decision to go out as that is the right thing to do. “For a second I just stand there, hoping Mom will tell me I can’t go.” “But she squeezes my hand and says, “Be careful Jose!” “I will mom I promise!”

  • Mr. Ramirez is looking for Vera. Then Jose saves other people. Jose goes back home and tells his mother that 33 out of the 56 people living in La Rupa are dead. These event caused Jose to start crying after he found out that 59% of people from the village died and his father and brother most likely died as well. “From our town fifty-six, thirty three are-”

  • After the category 5 hurricane killed many people in the town Jose grew up he helped save other and gave them shelter he is responsible compared to the beginning where he was fearful and didn't want to help. “La Rupa, our pueblo, has to survive, because if it dies, my dad and brother and sister won't have any place to come back to. La Rupa has not gone, not as long as any of us are still here.”

  • Jose would be different if he lived in chicago. Due to him living in chicago they would be able to learn when it would happen and they would be able to buy things to prepare. They would just stay warm and everyone would stay inside and most likely live. “YAY!!!! It's a snow day school is canceled!! I can stay home, sleep in, and have fun with my siblings!”
