Storyboard Text

  • The French and Indian war caused the Revolutionary war because after the war, London was in debt so they raised the colonists taxes. This made the colonists very angry.
  • French and Indian War of 1754-63
  • King, how are we going to get the money back from the war? We are in great debt!
  • I know! We can just raise the colonists taxes to get the money back.
  • The colonists were angered by the Proclamation. This caused the Revolutionary War because the colonists felt this was a limit on their freedom.
  • The Proclamation
  • No settlers will be allowed west of the Allegheny Mountains. This will ensure that the Native Americans remain at peace. Anyone settled in that region would have to move and resettle in the east.
  • Proclamation of 1763
  • We shouldn't have to pay for stamps!
  • The Stamp Act was established because London still needed money from the war. So they taxed the colonists on every stamp they bought. This made the colonists mad.
  • Its just a stamp!
  • Stamp Act (1765)
  • I think we should start a protest!
  • The colonists began rioting on the streets of Boston. They threw snow, ice, and rocks at the British soldiers. So, the British soldiers ended up killing 5 people.
  • Boston Massacre (March 5, 1770)
  • Um, I live here, so this is my house now.
  • As a result of the Boston Tea Party, G.B. closed Boston's port, forbid Boston to meet in groups, and allowed British soldiers to live with the colonists. This made the colonists upset because if the Boston port was closed, Boston couldn't trade. Also, they didn't want random British soldiers living with them.
  • Intolerable Acts (1773)
  • We live here too, you know.
  • Who IS that?
  • That was the colonists' last straw because London had ignored their last petition , and they were in the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The colonies declared independence from Great Britain, and this began the Revolutionary War!
  • Second Continental Congress (1776)
  • We declare independence!
  • This means war!
