Storyboard Text

  • Nice to meet you shank. Welcome to the Glade.
  • Never go out into the Maze at night. No matter what. Never.
  • The book, "The Maze Runner" by James Dashner. Characterization on the character Newt.
  • What?? You guys are acting like you have a secret.
  • "His hair was blond and cut long, cascading over his tee shirt. Veins stuck out of his muscular arms" (Dashner 9). This quote explains what Newt looks like from Thomas's point of view because Thomas is the main character of the story. Because Thomas is the main character, we will not know what others look like unless he tells us through his thoughts.
  • In place of our leader, sick in bed, I declare this Gathering begun.
  • Newt is a very strict character. He is hard on others because he wants to keep them safe. He needs as many people as possible in order to find a solution to get out of the Maze. If more people keep dying then the Gladers will never have enough people to venture out in the dangers of the Maze. Even though he can seem a little mean and strict, he does this in order to protect the people of the Glade from dying on being scared and being dumb. An example is when Alby gets so scared from not wanting to go to the real world that he runs into a Griever and gets killed.
  • How can you guys be so heartless?
  • Newt is very secretive. Newt and his friend Minho have to keep secrets from Thomas so that way he doesn't know of the real dangers of the Glade. He and Minho do this to protect him. If he and Minho told Thomas of the horrible things that are in the Glade, then Thomas might go crazy and run away. With only one new guy coming up in the box each month then that makes supplies very limited.
  • Newt was ahead of the keepers so, that makes him the head of the society. Since the conflict of the book "The Maze Runner" by James Dashner is a character v.s society conflict, then that makes Newt part of the conflict of the book. This effects Newt because he has to uphold the duties of being a leader and make all the important decisions in the Glade.
  • Newt was always serious and secretive because he wanted to keep everybody safe. This makes Newt a static character because he never changed his personality. But, when his best friend Alby died, he felt very sad and was disgusted when no one was as sad as him. This made Newt change, therefore making him a dynamic character. The event of Alby getting killed changed Newt from a static to a dynamic character.
