  • Revolution of 1911
  • Now that Yuan Shikai is gone who will unite the people?
  • May Fourth Movement in 1919
  • We want a unified China!
  • No more division!
  • Nationalist Verses Communist in 1927
  • I will bring an end to all communism in China.
  • We will have to act fast if we want to stay in in China.
  • A political idealist named Sun Yat Sen was trying to unify China and make it into a Republic. Yuan Shikai becomes president, but after his death the country is divided. Sun was the leader of one of the sides.
  • Long March in 1934
  • Many young people were unpleased with the division in China. They lead a revolt that was fueled by nationalist and communist ideas.
  • Japanese Invasion in 1937
  • Because of our predicament we will have to wait to finish our quarrel.
  • The nationalist leader Chiang Kai Shek began to purge many communists. Mao Zedong, leader of the communists, tries to fight. The nationalists defeat the communists in battle.
  • Mao Zedong, leader of the communists, lead his followers to an area outside of nationalist rule in order to regroup.
  • How much longer are we going to have to put up with these harsh conditions?!
  • When Japan invaded China the civil war was put on hold. The two sides decided to collectively fight Japan. In doing this Nationalism was weakened and Communism began to grow.
