  • Finally, the day to depart had arrived. Daedalus and Icarus woke up at dawn, donned their wings, and quickly flew towards freedom.
  • Finally, the day to depart had arrived. Daedalus and Icarus woke up at dawn, donned their wings, and quickly flew towards freedom.
  • However, soon after their journey began, Icarus strayed from his father's path. Overjoyed by his newfound flight, Icarus began to fly higher and higher.
  • "Icarus my son, fly lower, else your wings will melt," shouted Daedalus. But Icarus was too busy having fun to listen. He continued to fly higher and higher, until- 
  • Snap! Icarus's wings, having melted from the heat of the sun, disintegrate. Icarus is left, screaming as he plummets towards the sea. And poor, poor Daedalus, is left to watch his only son die from his own foolishness.
  • Father! Father!
  • Daedalus, now alone, mourns his son as he flies, coming to a top on the island of Sicily. There he mourned his lost son, performing burial rights and cursing his gift of invention. In honor of his lost son, he names the sea Icarus drowned in the 'Icarian Sea'.
