Storyboard Text

  • The Elections 1824
  • It's the leader of the War Hawks!
  • And a national hero!
  • The Corrrupt Bargain
  • Help me win and i'll name you Secretary of State!
  • A Cast Shadow
  • We have no respect for what you did! Although it wasn't illegal, it was highly unethical.
  • But we can!
  • YOU CAN'T KEEP VETOING EVERYTHING I SUGGEST >:(
  • Clay, Jackson, and Adams ran for president in the Election of 1824. They were known as the favorite sons because their home states supported them instead of the national party.
  • The Election of 1828
  • The National Republicans will obliterate you and your state's rights!
  • The Democrats and I will destroy you!
  • Although Jackson won popularity, none of the candidates won a majority of the electoral votes. That meant that it was up to the House to elect the next president. So, Adams made a deal with Clay to ensure that he would win the House.
  • An Overwhelming Victory
  • Jackson's followers had accused Adam's of a "corrupt bargain", which cast a shadow over his presidency. Congress vetoed all of his suggestions and he did nothing as president. He got what he deserved!
  • The Elections of 1824 & 1828
  • In the Elcetion of 1828, Adams ran again against Jackson. This split the Republican party into two; the Democrats, who supported Jackson, and the National Republicans, who supported Jackson. Their campaigning style was called mudslinging.
  • After Calhoun switched parties to run with Jackson in the election, Jackson won by a LANDSLIDE. In other words, he creamed Adams.
  • In conclusion, these two elections exposed the flaws of the house of representatives voting because of how the results could be altered. Also, the way candidates campaigned changed between these elections; to this day, mudslinging is common.
