In Gatsby's house there is a library and Owl Eyes says about the books in it "What realism! Knew when to stop too-didn't cut the pages"(Fitzgerald 46). He was surprised that the books on the shelf are real, but there just for show. They haven't been read. This shows us that they are just there for appearance, but the reality is he's never read any of them.
At the end of Gatsbys party a women was "very, very sad" and she was so sad because she didn't want to face reality she liked the appearance of Gatsbys party (Fitzgerald 51). Everyone was like this they did not want to face reality.
