  • Meeting the Estates General
  • The Tennis Court Oath
  • The storming of the Bastille
  • King Louis XVI called on the estates general to solve the financial issue and to balance his rule as king. The meeting was composed of representatives from the 3 estates (Clergy, Nobles, and Commoners.) The third estate decided not to meet with the other 2 estates.
  • The march on Versailles
  • The 3rd estate called itself the National Assembly and moved form Versailles to an indoor tennis court in town. Soon after, the 1st estate wanted to join them. This caused the tennis court oath which stated that no one should act until they create a constitution.
  • The reign of Terror
  • Many hungry people stormed the Bastille (Fort and Prison) . They were looking for gunpowder and trying to free political prisoners. when they tried to cross the bridge The Garrison started to shoot. France peasants began to revolt against their rulers.
  • The rise of Napoleon
  • After a long time of a lack of bread, 7000 women marched for 12 miles along with a handful of men and broke into the palace to find Marie Antoinette to kill her.
  • The revolution hadn't been solved yet. The fear of enemies inside and outside of France caused a new form of assembly, a New legislative assembly. another group (the Jacobins) fell under the leadership of radical men.During Maximilien Robespierre's Reign many were killed by guillotine.
  • Following the reign of Terror, french military gained control of the government. a few years later Napoleon Bonaparte became ruler. Napoleon stopped revolutionary reforms except for a few (Abolishment and feudalism) . Napoleon ruled as dictator and Emperor for 15 years.
