We have come together this day for the case of Gibbons and Ogden's steamboat dilemma. The two characters on Feburary 1, 1824 have both claimed to have the same route, and yet we know with our policy that, that is not correct. We shall talk over to find a conclusion.
The court found out that New York's licensing requirement for operations was inconsistent with a congressional act regulating the coastal trade.
Conclusion: The National Government had exclusive power regarding interstae commerce and navigation, and Gibbons had the right way to the steamboat line.
