Leonhard Euler was born April 15, 1707 in the city of Basel, Switzerland. He had two sisters and two brothers.
As a child Leonhard's Father taught him mathematics. He has had a passion ever since.
He joined the University of Basel from where he received his Master of Philosophy in 1723. His father wanted Leonhard to become a pastor so Euler began studying theology, Greek and Hebrew.
Leonhard Euler married Katharina Gsell, the daughter of a painter in 1734. They had thirteen kids yet only five survived their infancy.
Leonhard was famous for his discovery of the square root of -1. He also influenced, trigonometry, geometry, algebra, calculus and number theory. He had two theories named after him; Euler's Number in calculus and Euler-Maraschino Constant
Leonhard's work has helped in job such mechanics, fluid dynamics, optics and astronomy.
