Charles Pickney was the son of a rich land owner. He received his education at his home in Charlestown and later joined the militia.
The new Lieutenant was captured and taken prisoner by the British when Charlestown fell.
He became the governor of South Carolina and he chaired the state constitutional convention. He later moved up to the U.S. Senate.
He submitted a plan for the government that became the basis for the Constitution
Charles served in the Continental Congress and the Confederation Congress. He also served several terms in his state legislature.
