Shortly after her book was published, it started to gain popularity. Those from both the North and South were intrigued. Over 200,000 copies were sold.
Even President Lincoln, himself, met Ms. Stowe
So this is the little lady who started this great war
However, many southerners were outraged by this "false" publication. And many felt it was not a true depiction of what slaves lived like.
In the end, northerners felt that slavery was now a moral issue, and southerners felt slaves were necessary to their way of life. Because of this tension, the great Civil War began.
