Storyboard Text

  • March 20, 1852; Harriet Beecher Stowe contemplates the title of her book
  • Hmm.. I think I'll call it Uncle Tom's Cabin or maybe Life Among the Lowly
  • Shortly after her book was published, it started to gain popularity. Those from both the North and South were intrigued. Over 200,000 copies were sold.
  • Even President Lincoln, himself, met Ms. Stowe
  • So this is the little lady who started this great war
  • However, many southerners were outraged by this "false" publication. And many felt it was not a true depiction of what slaves lived like.
  • In the end, northerners felt that slavery was now a moral issue, and southerners felt slaves were necessary to their way of life. Because of this tension, the great Civil War began.
