  • Mexico Welcomes Large Numbers of Anglo-American immigrants
  • Welcome!
  •  1835 New Dictator of Mexico
  • DISARM YUR WEAPONS!!!!
  • Battle of Gonzales
  • We must fire if we are going to win!
  • Oh..you have no idea
  • They welcomed large numbers in hopes of they would become loyal Mexican Citizens and keep territory from falling. They adjusted to life by speaking English, forming schools, and having closer trading ties.
  • Battle of the Alamo
  • Antonio Lopez de Santa is a Dictator. He overthrew the Consitution and ordered the military to disarm the Texans. 
  • Battle of San Jacinto
  • We must destroy that bridge!
  • The Mexican soldiers were sent to get the cannon but they didn't know that there was no use for it anymore. Eighteen men fired the cannon and the Mexicans retreated back to San Antonio.
  • Texas Statehood
  • The Mexicans outnumbered the defenders because they never had more than 200 men. The forces were between 1,800 and 6,000 men! The defenders held out bravely for 13 days.
  • This will be easy. They DO NOT have many people. Let's get them!
  • The battle had lasted less than twenty minutes. Sam Houston ordered Smith to destroy the bridge which prevented further swelling of Mexican ranks. The thing is, is that it was the only way they could retreat.
  • Texas statehood happened on December 29, 1845. John Tyler orchestrated a compromise to become a slave state which they did not want to do.
