Storyboard Text

  • Ordinary World
  • Call to Adventure
  • Refusal
  • Theseus lived happily with his mother, Aethra, all throughout his childhood, never knowing the identity of his father.
  • Mentor
  • I was made in Athens
  • When Theseus was old enough, his mother took him to a large rock. At first, Theseus could not lift the rock as his mother had asked him to do, so he snuck back every night until finally, Theseus was able to lift it and recover the sword and purple robe underneath it.
  • Crossing the Threshold
  • The sword and robe revealed to Theseus that his father was Aegeus, king of Athens, who he very much longed to meet. But his mother begged him stay, which he did for a time, for she feared Theseus would be killed on the journey.
  • Tests, Allies, and Enemies
  • His father, though he may not have known it, trained Theseus in strength by giving him the task of lifting the large rock. He also started Theseus on his quest, by leaving the clue as to where his true home was.
  • Theseus decided to leave his mother in the middle of the night and sailed for Athens.
  • Theseus found the land surrounding Athens to be ugly. The sun scorched the barren land, baking the ground, sharp winds roared over its surface, and unsavory people like bandits and murderers roamed free, terrorizing decent folk.
