Storyboard Text

  • In this scene, Creon questions the Sentry about him explaining that the Gods buried Polynieces. He says whoever did the act of burying him, shall be diminished.
  • The Gods? The gods would have never wanted anything to do with Polyneices! The person who did this transgression must be diminished!
  • The Sentry found out that Antigone was the one to bury Polynices, and Creon does not believe the truth.
  • Why is it that Antigone must be diminished?
  • "Here is the one who did it! We caught hwe in the very act of burying him" (Sophocles ii. 3-4).
  • Antigone confesses to being the one to bury her brother.
  • Why bring her? Is it really true?
  • Creon, this is the woman who buried Polynieces! It is Antigone, his sister!
  • I confess, I have done eevrything!
  • Ismene wants to plead guilty, but Antigone does not let that happen. She fights that it was her fault only, and Creon thinks very lowly of Antigone now.
  • How dishonorable! you have gone past my word, and have now burried Polynieces! Ismene is also guilty, go arrest her, and Antigone, your death sentence is getting closer!
  • Imene is not guilty in any way! I take full blame, it was me! Take me,only! Kill me, only!
  • I realize what my love Antigone has done, but  "I am your son, father...no marriage means more to me than your continuing wisdom" (Sophocles iii. 8-9).
  • Haimon, Creon's son, realizes that Antigone is being punished, but his father is more important. Creon is happy that Haimon thinks that, and he believes that Antigone should find a man in hell when she dies.
  • Very well. My son shall always respect me! You would grow to not love her anymore anyways! She shall die, and let her find a man in hell!
  • What Antigone has done was brave, and alright to do! She did it with honor. She never meant to hurt or harm anyone. I believe that you're wrong and she shall not be executed!
  • Haimon starts to realize that Creon is wrong, and what Antigone has done was brave and she never meant to hurt anyone. Creon thinks that Haimon is being foolish and making a mistake.
  • You're being foolish! listen to yourself when you speak up!
