  • The North had more people and larger towns than the South due to their more developed economy.
  • The North had better transportation services than the South. The North had railroads and trains, for transportation and trade.
  • Factories such as this one are examples of the advance in technology and industry in the North.
  • Plantation Houses such as these housed slaves and sometimes their owners as well, but the owner always had more luxury. Plantation Houses are normally near a plantation.
  • Slaves slept in rooms such as these on beds much harder than those depicted here.
  • Slaves worked on plantations such as the one shown here. Plantations were much larger with rows of crops- cotton being the most important cash crop
