Rainsford asked, "Do you think we've passed the island yet?"(Connell 62)
Rainsford lost his balance!"He lunged for it; a short , hoarse cry came from his lips as he realized he had reached too far and had lost his balance" (Connell 63).

After winning the battle, he thought to himself; "He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided"(Connell 80)
