Storyboard Text

  • King Louis XVI was sentenced to death on January 20th, 1793. He said goodbye to his family and headed to the execution in a black carriage the next day.
  • The Committee of Public Safety is established to deal with threats to France. It had 12 members with almost absolute power.
  • Robespierre "the Incorruptible" rises to power and led the Reign of Terror, where 40,000 people were killed.
  • Put your 'ead in ze 'ole!
  • The Guillotine was typically used to behead enemies of France during the Reign of Terror. Large crowds would gather to watch the public executions.
  • GUILTY!!!
  • Marie Antoinette was found guilty of treason, as well as other crimes, and was sentenced to death by beheading. She was brought to her execution on a cart so the public could throw things and berate her.
  • The Committee of Public Safety turned on Robespierre, placing him under arrest and labeling him a tyrant and dictator. As he was arrested, he was shot in the jaw.
