Week 1 - pages 1-117 The Maze Runner: The Death Cure by James Dashner
This storyboard does not have a description.
I need to talk to you, Tommy. Just you. It'll only take a second.
Put this in your pocket and don't open it until the time is right.
How will I know when the time is-
Good that. Break your promise and I'll never forgive you.
You'll bloody know! Now swear it to me, swear it!
FIne! I swear, I swear I won't read it, but why-
Newt has recently been informed that he is infected with The Flare, a virus that makes you go insane that escaped from a disease control center when sun flares hit the Earth. The virus spread through the population rapidly. Thomas is immune to the flare, so even if he catches it, he will show no symptoms. Newt needs to talk to Thomas alone before they escape from WICKED.
Newt hands Thomas a small sealed envelope. He makes Thomas swear he won't open it until "the time is right".
Newt raises his voice, which is out of character for him, almost like the effects of the flare are already showing. Newt also threatens to never forgive Thomas if he breaks his promise. Because Newt is normally a calm person or will put on a calm face, this scene stood out to me. It draws importance to it because of how out of character Newt is. It foreshadows that the story will reference this scene for a crucial plot point.
