Aurora goes through daily physical and mental training, courtesy of Alec. She enjoys the mental part of it, working through real-life conflicts and logic problems, but despises the physical aspect of it. She's very out of shape, as she's never been outside the house before. These sessions strengthen Aurora's relationship with Alec, creating respect and making Alec seem more like a father figure to Aurora.
The IE needed to set up a spy in the Officials' building to inform the team of Conway's actions to find Aurora and their misdeeds with the Prunings. Jennifer immediately volunteers for this job, making Aurora suspicious. Within a week, she reports new findings. The Pruning Marks that kids get after the test were DNA scanners, scanning for any sign of Conway's DNA. Since there hadn't been a match yet, Conway knew that his firstborn didn't have them.
A few days later, the IE is infiltrated by a man in a black outfit. Holding Aurora as a hostage, he blackmails the IE into giving him all their information on Conway and the Officials plans. This confuses the IE, as they didn't know anything about the Official's plans. Jennifer sneaks up behind him and shoots the man in black. They check for the Official's emblem and find it on the man's wrist. They unmask him and Merilyn and Alec get a strange surprise. They find the man their father they thought to be dead. Aurora and Serena recognize him as the storekeeper. All the pieces fall into place. Aurora was captured because the storekeeper, Alec and Merilyn's dad, reported her to the Officials, being the spy he was. This brings up the question of how he knew the whereabouts of the IE. Who was the traitor?
Aurora and Serena have a big fight. Serena was always a bit jealous of Liz, but now she accused her of being the traitor and told Aurora to her face. Aurora, being very loyal to her friends, immediately defended her. Serena told Aurora that she didn't want to be friends with her anymore, and they stopped talking. Serena comes up with the perfect way to prove that Liz was the traitor. She takes Liz into the cellar and washes her wrists, revealing the Official's Emblem tattooed on her wrist.
Aurora feels really bad about fighting with Serena when she was right. She doesn't want anyone else to die because of her bad judgment, so she tries to run away to kill Conway on her own. Of course, she had an amazing plan as well. Serena forgives her and helps her see that she can only do this with the rest of the team. However, Aurora's plan seems foolproof, and they bring it up to the rest of the team. The IE decides to carry it out the very next day.
Aurora found out that the "storekeeper" worked as a secretary in the Official building when he was not posing as a storekeeper. With this, she made her plan. The next day, Alec snuck into the Official building, being the spitting image of his father that he was. He simply mixed in some sleep serum with Conway's daily coffee. He opened a back door so that Aurora could get in. The two of them dragged Conway to their car, ready to question him later. Unfortunately, someone sees them.
