Get to work!
One of the main motives for the Haitian Revolution was slavery. The Haitians had heard of the French Revolution & decided it was time for their own. They felt they were being treated unfairly as they were forced to do labor & severely tortured if they refused.
A method that the Haitians used was secretly planning behind their owners' backs. All in one night they rioted, killed, and burned down houses. The owners had not seen it coming. Toussaint L'Ouverture decided it was best if he lead this revolution.
Finally, the change that came with the revolution was the first "black republic". This idea scared many English, French, and Americans because to them blacks had only been slaves and now they had power. The Haitians did not do very well because of this and the lack of trade they had. Still, to this day, Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world.
