The Election of 1800 By: Staney Thomas
Originally the election was supposed to be Jefferson VS John Adams but John Adams lost by getting only a mere 65 votes while Aaron Burr and Thomas Jefferson tied with 73 votes each. The 2 Democratic Republican candidates were now running against each other for president.
The vote went to the House of Representatives, which was dominated by Federalists at the time, to determine the president and vice president. Although Hamilton (F) disliked Jefferson, he swung the vote in favor of Jefferson.
Jefferson has beliefs, Burr has none.
Jefferon wins the election after securing the House vote and is officially declared president on February 17th, 1801. Burr becomes vice president. After his victory, Jefferson ratifies the 12th Amendment in 1804 by saying that presidential and vice presidential candidates should be voted separately.
I didn't think you'd actually shoot me!
After finding out that Hamilton jeopardized his presidential vote, Burr challenges Hamilton to a duel and then kills him. RIP Hamilton.
Brrrrr.... You make me angry!
