  • Meeting of the Estates General: 1789, king Louis xvI set up meeting with the three representatives of the three estates. The third estate felt cheated by the king so they refused to vote, making them the victims in a vast conspiracy.
  • The Tennis Court Oath: 1789, third estate declared itself the National Assembly and moved from the palace of Versailles to a large indoor tennis court in town. First estate voted to join them,began the destruction of the three-class social system in France...they took an oath known as the Tennis Court Oath. This meeting constituted a direct challenge to the existence of Absolutism in France.
  • THE STORMING OF THE BASTILLE: hundreds of hungry people stormed the Bastille searching for gunpowder and wanted to release political prisoners. The garrison open fired, the revolutionists fired cannons, and then the fortress surrendered. Peasants rose in spontaneous revolt against their lords for hacking the commander into pieces and for all they did.
  • THE MARCH ON VERSAILLES: Bread shortages causes thousands of women to march 12 miles from Paris to Versailles to demand bread. them with some men barged into the palace looking for the queen to murder her. The king with his wife queen Marie Antoinette and his son packed up and went to Paris to face their fate! King and Marie both get their heads cut off and son dies of excessive abuse.
  • THE REIGN OF TERROR: New Legislative arose and met up, majority were young and inexperienced middle class men. Splinter group known as the Jacobins fell under the leadership of radical men. Maximilien Robespierre established revolutionary courts. These courts tried citizens for treason against revolution. In his 2 years of reign, he sent 40,000 people to be executed bu guillotine along with Robespierre.
  • Napoleon Bonaparte came to power after the french military gained control of the government. He managed to stop the revolutionary reforms but kept a few. He provided France w/ new constitution "Consulate". He established himself as the first Consul when he was justa military dictator. Ruled for 15 years!!
