This quote fits into the the call to adventure frame of the hero's journey. This is where Beowulf meets King Hrothgar for the first time at the Mead hall, and he describes in detail The issue with Grendel, and what Beowulf needs to do.
his talon was raised to attack Beowulf Where he lay on the bed; he was bearing in With open claw when the alert hero’s Comeback and armlock forestalled him utterly. The captain of evil discovered himself In a handgrip harder than anything He had ever encountered. (Lines 745-750).
This fits the crossing the threshold frame of the hero's journey. This is the second time Grendel bursts into the mead hall, but this is the first time Beowulf observes him. The defeat of Grendel here starts Beowulf's "quest", as this battle leads to the battle with Grendel's Mother, and the dragon.
I have often honored smaller achievements, 950 Recognized warriors not nearly as worthy, Lavished rewards on the less deserving. But you have made yourself immortal By your glorious action. (Lines 950-954).
This part of the story fits into the reward frame of the hero's journey, but it is not the end of Beowulf's ordeal. This is where King Hrothgar rewards Beowulf for his service to him by defeating Grendel. Hrothgar is very grateful for what Beowulf has done, and knows that they can trust each other.
