Storyboard Description

Voting, the very liberty that the colonists and founding fathers gave their lives for, was consistently denied to African Americans. Jim Crow laws established racist segregation that limited the opportunities and freedoms of black people. At the voting booth, African Americans were presented with literacy tests that were made so people would be unable to solve them - made law by the Grandfather clause which stipulated that if an individuals grandfather was a slave they would be barred from voting. Even if an African American was able to pass the test, white people would find a way to deny them the vote. White people, no matter their socioeconomic status, were allowed to vote, yet this same liberty was allowed to African Americans. It was not until the Civil Rights Act, Voting Right Act, and 24th Amendment of the Lyndon B Johnson Administration that African Americans were able to get their long denied liberty
