The Freedman's Bureau helped former black slaves, now freedmen, in the aftermath of the Civil War in the South. They provided food, housing, medical-aid, established schools, and offered legal assistance.
Black Codes are a series of restrictive laws against blacks in the south after the 13th Amendment abolished slavery. Some of these laws would be like a curfew, not being able to own a home or land, not able to own a gun, etc.
•13th Amendment: Abolished Slavery •14th Amendment: Grants Citizenship/ Equal protection of the law •15th Amendment: suffrage for freedmen
In the presidency campaign of Democrat Tilden vs. Republican Hayes there was no majority vote and the House of Representatives Decides that the Democrats have enough seats to have a choice. They made the compromise that Hayes would be declared president, but the Federal troops are removed from the South ,therefore, ending the Reconstruction.
