  • Robert Hooke was born in 1635, in Freshwater, Isle of Wight in the UK.
  • Hi!
  • Hooke created a more advanced microscope so he could view the surface of a cork.
  • (Image of a cork)
  • Using this microscope (which was very advanced in his time) he was able to see small pores in the cork.
  • In 1665, Hooke published a book called "Micrographia," when he first used the term "cell" to describe the basic unit of life.
  • I call them "cells."
  • In 1831, another scientist named Robert Brown discovered and named the cell nucleus.

  • Later, when the microscope had further developed, scientists like Francesco Redi and Anton van Leeuwenhoek added on to Hooke's discoveries.
