  • I'm sorry, my friend...
  • Mathilde and her husband begged the jeweler not to sell the necklace for three days. During the three days they look for ways to pay for the necklace. M. Loisel inherits 18 000 Francs from his father and they borrow the rest. They then buy the necklace and give it to Madame Forestier.
  • Mathilde and her husband spend the next ten years of their lives working to repay all the debt that they have accumulated. 
  • One day, Mathilde goes on a walk to relax after the week's work. She sees a woman walking with a child. It was Madame Forestier. Mathilde goes to tell Madame Forestier the truth about her necklace. Amazed, yet sorry.. Madame Forestier explains to Mathilde that the necklace she had borrowed was an imitation; Likely worth 500 Francs at most.
