  • Athenians economy was based on trade because of they did not have enough land to provide food for everyone. They were close to a sea so this let them trade with other people. They traded honey, olive oil, silver and pottery. In return, they got goods and natural resources they needed.

  • The spartan economy was farm ing  they discouraged trade because they did not want  people to get ideas and weaken there government. Sparta had land but not enough to provide food for everyone. 
  • This is sparta !!!

  • Becuase they did not have enough land. They conquered other people lands. The conquered villagers turned into slaves they could still live in their village but had to give Sparta most of the food they grew.

  • They  thought that making people good citizens was education. So they taught boys were  at home until they turned 7. Then they went to school and learned reading, writing, arithmetic, literature, music, wrestling and gymnastics. They dd not use books they used tablets because  they were rare. 
  • Spartans education was discipline and strength. If a baby did not appear strong it would have been left to die on a hillside.   At age 7 they were trained to fight. girls were also taught to have some military training.  They learned wrestling, foot racing, and gymnastics. Spartan boys were taught to suffer any physical pain. They did not get fed well so they stole. at age 18 they took a test if they passed they were citizens but they still had to be soldiers 
  • Girls in Athens helped their mother around the house. they were taught to cook, clean, spin thread and weave cloth. They got married at age 15 if they were wealthy their father picked if they were poor they had more choices.
