  • Thursday, October 29th 1929, 'The Black Tuesday' US lost $16 billion dollars which ultimately started The Great Depression. 25% was the unemployment rate. The Great Depression was the largest economic crisis, in the western area. Over 5000 banks had gone bankrupt. US was badly effected by WW1, families were trying to cope with the loss of their loved one and their homes.

  • Franklin Delano Roosevelt became the 32nd president of US, he won Herbert Hoover by a landslide. FDR had 57% popular vote and 89% electoral vote. Before this poeple used to vote for repulicans and democrats, there was no major party, however this changed after Roosvelts election and the democratic party stayed the most dominant from 1932 - 60s.
  • 2nd, 3rd and 4th time in a row 1936-1945

  • After taking his spot as president, his main agendas were - Public work programs, to ease unemplyment, -Stabilizing the banks and making people trust the bank again, -Regulating the economy so that everybody has equal rights, mininum wages and decrease child labor and - Assisting the farmers who suffered during the DUST BOWL by boosting the crop price.

  • FDR fought Great Depression with many relief and recovery measures known as 'New Deal'. Some of them are Agricultural Adjutment Act(AAA), Civilian Conservative Corps (CCC), Federal Emergency Relief Act (FERA), Workers Progress Administration (WPA), Security Service Act (SSA), Tennesse Valley Authority (TVA) and few more
  • FDR was the only president to be elected for 4 terms. He was president from March 1932 - 1945 when he passsed away. He emphasized with his citizens and showed them that he cared. He used the power of radio to reach millions and this increased FDR's political power. Unemployment rate dropped. Economies improved. People trust the bank again. Farmers and workers had union and their status improved. However some of his New Deals did not work.
  • FDR helped US through the WW2. He was like a reassuring presence for United States of America. Tragically FDR's life ended. He died because of a stroke while on vacation. He was buried with his wife Anna Eleanor Roosevelt. US economy started to recover after WW2. Before he dies he nearly had victory over Europe and the Pacific.
