Alexander's and Cleopatra's wedding
In October 336 BC Alexander the Great's father King Philip went to Alexander and Cleopatra's wedding, daughter oh Philip and Olympias.
King Philip had organised musical competitions to run along side the wedding ceremony. Philip wanted to show the Greeks that he was a pleasant man. The musical competitions were held in the theatre of Aegae.
Pausanias also dies
Once he entered the theatre he had ordered the bodyguard to follow behind him at some distance to show that he needed no protection from his body guards.
Alexander the Great becomes King
When King Philip entered Pausanias, the leader of the bodyguards, rushed up to Philip while he was on his own and stabbed him with a Celtic dagger.
Pausanias runs away to his horses but on his way he trips over a vine and also dies.
Because Alexander was next in line to the throne (along with others) he then became the King of Macedonia
