  • Exposition
  • Conflict
  • Rising Action
  • Henry tells his mother that he is going to enlist in the army.
  • Climax
  • Henry, feeling scared and unsure of himself, runs away from battle.
  • Falling Action
  • Henry returns from his regiment after being struck on the head by a rifle from another soldier. He tells his regiment that he was shot in the head and Wilson cares for him. However, Henry is worried his group will find out about his lie and cowardliness.
  • Resolution
  • Henry decides to take part in the next big battle and fights bravely and courageously. He even takes on the duty of carrying the Union flag when the original flag holder is wounded.
  • Henry fights fiercely and helps capture the Confederate flag.
  • Henry survives the battle and gains new confidence and manhood. He looks back at how he used to be, a scared young boy, to how he is now, a courageous and fierce man.
