  • Fort Vancouver
  • October 16th, 1836
  • Lewis and Clark Expedition enters the present state of Washington.
  • November 29th, 1847
  • Hudson's Bay Company establishes Fort Vancouver.
  • 1849
  • 302, 303, 304.  304 non-Indians.
  • Marcus and Narcissa Whitman establish a mission at Waiilatpu.
  • 1850
  • Whitman Massacre occurs at Waiilatpu. In the massacre the Cayuse Indians kill Marcus and Narcissa Whitman with 11 others. This is ecause the Cayuse Indians believed that Marcus Whitman had poisoned 200 of their people by not curing them.
  • Oregon Territory census counts 304 non-Indian residents north of the Columbia River.
  • Hudson's Bay Company establishes a fishing station on San Juan Islands.
