After a long time of struggle with, King Philip II of France, Pope Innocent III, and his own English nobles, King John was forced to sign the Magna Carte. The Magna Carte was a charter giving feudal rights.
The Magna Carte says that I must obey the laws even though I am apart of the monarch!
Pope Innocent III took office in 1198. As head of the Church, he claimed supremacy over all other rulers. Innocent clashed with all the powerful rulers of his day. For example, King John of England, dared to appoint an archbishop without the Popes approval, Innocent placed his kingdom under interdict and excommunicated King John.
