I need to create a design to make my country proud.
The Chicago World Fair was quickly approaching and they were in a search to find the next big attraction..
France had just created the Eiffel Tower, and the Chicago Fair wanted to find an attraction by an American that was just as amazing.
I will show him. I will use steel to make it big and strong.
This design will never work! It won't hold up.
George was determined to make America proud and be the engineer that made an attraction comparable to the one in France.
I am going to have to use my savings and the money from private investors to build my design.
When George knew he had a great idea, he headed to the fair judge to pitch his idea to him.
The judge told George that his idea was foolish. Nothing this big and delicate would ever hold up. George believed in his design and knew that there was a way to make it work if he used steel.
The fair was creeping closer and the judges became desperate. They agreed to try George's design but did not give him any money to achieve it.
