Storyboard Text

  • Even though I'm not happy about it, I guess you guys are free
  • I will not allow this man to work with me!
  • I'm sorry but it's the law. He's a legal citizen.
  • VOTE
  • VOTE FOR ME!
  • The 13th Amendment was passed in December 1865. Its purpose was to ban slavery in all states. Farmers could no longer have slaves to tend to their crops and pick cotton for them. Many people in the south were not happy about it but obeyed.
  • The 14th amendment was passed in 1868 and it made all former slaves legal U.S. citizens. And it gave them all equal rights. Many African Americans could not find jobs, though so they went back to working for farmers but barely got paid. It was like slavery but the workers didn't get harmed.
  • The 15th amendment was passed in 1870. It gave everyone the equal right to vote and run for office. You were qualified no matter what your skin color and race were. This was for males only, of course, as women were not allowed to vote yet.
