  • Janie Meets Jody
  • A pretty doll-baby lak you is made to sit on de front porch and rock and fan yo’self and eat p’taters dat other folks plant just special for you.
  • Running off !
  • From now on until death I was going to have flower dust springtime sprinkled over everything.  A bee for my bloom.
  • Eatonville
  • In this scene Janie meets Jody for the first time.  his charm does nothing but win her over.  She is amazed by his dreams and ambitions and wonders what it would be like to follow the journey with him.
  • Where it all starts
  • Soon enough after Joe's visit, Janie decides to take up on his offer and go to a small town called Eatonville.  Janie and Joe get married soon before their arrival and Joe introduces Janie to a new type of life along with a new type of love.
  • Obedience
  • Upon Janie and Joe's arrival at Eatonville, they were not expecting it to be so down in the dumps.  Joe wanted to make the town great for him and Janie, make lots of money, and then leave to go and travel the world together on a first-class train.
  • You don't even know me
  • You've been with me for twenty years and you don't know me half at all
  • During the ceremony of putting up the street light, Janie encounters a new type of Joe that she hadn't seen in him before.  Janie starts to realize that with loving Joe comes with her being obediant to him.  Little does she know this is just the start of what's to come.
  • After the Street light incident Joe makes Janie do the unpredictable.  Janie has beautiful long curly hair, and Joe makes her wear a wrap on her head and hid her hair.  In this moment Janie realizes that her old Joe is gone and that a new one who demands dominance has taken his place.  It wasn't her and Joe's life anymore, it was just Joe's life and she was just living in it.
  • After about 20 years, Joe has become ill and is dying.  Janie and Joe's relationship is distant.  They really don't know each other at all.  They still love each other, but it isn't the same type of love they had in the beginning when they ran off together.  Joe ran the town and became mayor, while Janie put on a smile for everyone and lived as a slave to Joe.
