Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

“Things Fall Apart” is about a man named Okonkwo from a Tribe in Nigeria. In tribal life men are afraid to share their feelings for fear of being thought as weak, in their community reputation is everything. Okonkwo is brave, but stands alone a lot with his decision to fight. Deep down inside he fears his emotions and allows his paranoia to control him because he knows he will lose his position in power if he shows his fear.

Okonkwo’s emotional conflict causes him to become violent, during an act of rage he accidentally kills a man and is forced to leave his tribe. When he is allowed to return he finds that his culture has changed drastically. Missionaries have come to teach tribal people of African countries with western ways. However the people of Okonkwo's tribe begin to struggle with how to live their life. As communication becomes an issue the missionaries begin to divide this once powerful tribe.
