Grandpa, what was the civil rights act?
You see, during a very sad time in American history, African Americans were abused and mistreated as slaves to work all day for extremely little or no pay.
After the American Civil War, three amendments were passed. These so called rules were to abolish slavery in America, to give all born Americans citizenship, and it allowed all men a right to vote regardless of race.
But even after all of these rules, African Americans were still extremely mistreated
Public discrimination was an ongoing struggle
People of color were even made to sit at the back of buses, away from white individuals
