Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in response of McCarthyism and how he was against it. The story takes place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692.

In this scene, Tituba is getting beaten for the accusation witchcraft. She was worried about her reputation because she did not want the receive the punishment (which was hanging) and she did not want the be the blame of the whole hysteria.

Tituba wanted to get on Abigail's "good" side by creating a charm for Abigail to drink to kill Goody Proctor. This show that Tituba will do anything for the girls.
Tituba, make me a charm for me to kill Goody Proctor!
Tituba was the leader of the witchcraft who is doing this for Abigail and the other girls who were trying to get revenge other men and women in their community.
Due to the Hysteria in the community, Tituba was affected by this because she was blamed for the witchcraft in the woods with Abigail and the other girls who were involved. She was eventually sent to a Salem jail for "her" crime.
