Storyboard Text

  • Born in 1978
  • I discovered political science in high school
  • First trip abroad: Ecuador
  • My mother gave birth at home in a small village called Ste-Louise des Aulnaies. It's in Quebec, Canada. I have two sisters.
  • Then I discovered beekeeping
  • When I was fifteen I took a week-long introductory political science course at University of Ottawa. That summer I ran 10k to raise money to send to Cuba and started attending political meetings. In college I studied international development.
  • University years
  • College ended with a capstone project in Ecuador. I spent three months with a family and spent another three months traveling to neighbouring Peru and Bolivia on my own. I guess that was my first moment of realization and contrast.
  • The necessities of life
  • I was introduced to beekeeping in 1998. The year after, I enrolled in technical college in Alberta. That's where I learned how to take care of bees. To learn queenrearing, we went on a field trip to California. I have launched my own beekeeping business only to realize farming wasn't for me.
  • I hold a BA and MA in political science from Laval and UBC. While in university I completed a field survey of beekeeping in Haiti for Oxfam. Another moment of contrast and realization. I also spent a few months at a Russian university in Moscow. I was mostly attracted to solving environmental issues.
  • I have 3 kids aged 8, 6 and 2. Since graduating from university I haven't been very good at keeping in touch with what I want from life outside of my family. I have been working as a policy analyst and then switched to financial services. I have a sense of urgency about finding my purpose for existence (Why Cafe anyone?). I also have an entrepreneurial spirit. That's why I'm taking this online course.
