  • The primary motive of British imperialism in China was basically how China is rich in economy contradicting to how high the demand was for silk, porcelain, etc in the British market. Other motives that follows are also to expand territory, gain prestige and boost nationalism
  • 1839-1842
  • British started selling Opium, a narcotic from India in China against the will of Chinese government
  • 1839-1842
  • The Chinese emperor, Tao Kuang, asked his magistrate to go to Canton ( Hong Kong ) and destroy the ship which carries Opium from Britain
  • 1842
  • British then fought back and the " First Opium War" with China finally begun
  • The Chinese natives started responding to the actions of imperialism by creating a rebellion and fought back the Britain army.
  • Taiping Rebellion
  • The first Opium finally declared to an end, negotiating peace which ended in the Treaty of Nanjing,
