  • The girl was one of those pretty and charming young creatures who sometimes are born, as if by a slip of fate, into a family of clerks. She had no dowry, no expectations, no way of being known, understood, loved, married by any rich and distinguished man; so she let herself be married to a little clerk of the Ministry of Public Instruction.
  •  We got invited to my boards of ministrations party
  • I have nothing to wear. *cries*
  • "I have--I have--I've lost Madame Forestier's necklace," she cried.
  • Mathilde is a pretty girl who deserves so much more than what she got. She buys a dress later on for another reason.
  • She has nothing to wear so she so can't go, so she asked her friend for a jewel or necklaces, her friend gave her one.
  • Mathilde lost Forestier's necklace that is the conflict of the story Mathilde lost Madame Forestier's necklace. This is resolved by Mathilde bought Forestier a new necklace.
