  • In April of 1775 British troops were sent to take away colonial weapons but they ran into an untrained and angry ragtag militia. They defeated 700 British soldiers and it gave them confidence for the war ahead.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord
  • On June 17, 1775, the British won against the Americans at the Battle of Bunker Hill in Massachusetts. Even though they lost they still caused significant casualties to the British and it gave them confidence. Most of the fighting was on Breed's Hill.

  • On May 10, 1775, less than a hundred militiamen under the command of Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold went across Lake Champlain in the morning and surprised the still-sleeping British at Fort Ticonderoga.

  • On September 28, 1781, the Battle of Yorktown took place in Yorktown, Virginia. This was the last battle that they faught before the end of the Revolutionary War and it was led by George Washington. The Americans won and it prompted the British government to let the colonists have their freedom.
  • On December 25, 1776, George Washington led about 2,400 troops across the Delaware River into Trenton, New Jersey. It was a surprise attack on the Hessians. George Washington and his men won leaving 22 dead and another 1,000 captured with 83 wounded.
  • In the Fall of 1777, there were two Battles of Saratoga that were fought 18 days apart. They were turning point in the war because after Britain's defeat France agreed to be America's ally. At first, Britain won against America but they came back and made a victory after already fighting.
