Storyboard Text

  • The nine Scottsboro boys, Clarence Norris, Charlie Weems, Haywood Patterson, Olen Montgomery, Ozie Powell, Willie Roberson, Eugene Williams, Andy Wright, and Roy Wright, and the two white girls, Victoria Price and Ruby Bates, boarded the freight train on March 25, 1941.
  • "What's the matter young ladies?"
  • "We were raped by nine black boys on the train ride into town!"
  • "Help! Someone help us!"
  • "Are you the nine black boys who rode the freight train to town on March 25?"
  • "You are all under arrest for the rape of Victoria Price and Ruby Bates."
  • "Yes sir. Is there a problem?"
  • "What?!"
  • The trial of the ninth boy, Roy Wright, ends in a mistrial when some jurors hold out for a death sentence even though the prosecution asked for life inprisonment.
  • "We find the defendants, Clarence Norris, Charlie Weems, Haywood Patterson, Olen Montgomery, Ozie Powell, Willie Roberson, Eugene Williams, and Andy Wright guilty of rape and they will convicted immediately and sentenced to death."
  • Because segregation was so bad, there were riots happening all around the courthouse during the trials of people who wanted the nine boys dead. Also, before the trials started, people tried to organize lynchings of them. Also, they all got poor lawyers who didn't care whether they were convicted or not because of the color of their skin.
  • The Scottsboro boys were put in jail and had to wait every day until their death dates came. Then, a miracle happened. They received a letter from Ruby Bates saying that she wasn't actually raped.
  • After receiving the letter from Ruby Bates stating that she wasn't raped, the boys were released one by one. However, some of them still had to do time in prison, like Charlie Weems, who was convicted to 75 years in prison.
