  • Joseph Stalin 1878-1953
  • Stalin dies in 1953, which means the process of de-stalinization begins.
  • Leonid Brezhnev
  • Nikita Khruschev
  • Khrushchev took control over de-stalnization after Stalin died. He controlled from 1955 until his removal in 1964. His policy movements were not that successful.
  • Brezhnev took control after Khrushchev. He was in control from October 1964 until his death in 1982. His regime could be described as primarily bureaucratic and conservative. He was seeking existing power rather than introducing new power structures.
  • Without the political compliance, the population was happy with job security, the lax job environment, low process on basic goods, housing and transport, social services and the minimal interference with personal life. Brezchnev was not the peoples favorite ruler but after these things increased so did his popularity.
