  • Hello everyone, my name is Jasmine and I will explain to you  about tone, how to use it, and what tone is appropriate to address readers with!

  • In simple words, Tone is the manner in which speech or writing is expressed. It is much harder for a writer to exhibit tone in writing alone than a speaker.

  • Note tone is definitely different from mood because mood is the feeling the reader takes way, not the author's.

  • Tone may also vary by genre. Romance literature will have a more softer tone, than a horror story with darker words. Tone can be delivered with: imagery, symbolism, metaphor,or description.

  • When writing literature, think of the reader. What would the reader think, read, learn, and understand? In expository, tone should be informative, and concise. Creative writing should cue the reader about the most important information. It requires focus on communication.
  • Time to test your skills! Please open Kahoot and put the pin in to play with me!
