Storyboard Text

  • Scene IV: In order to return the favor for saving his life, the knight must marry the old hag.
  • "To keep your word and take me for your wife,"(286).
  • "You're old, and so abominably plain,"(288).
  • Scene VII: The knight complains about the appearance of his new wife while in bed. He also admits he does not want her as wife.
  • Scene VIII: The old hag rants on about how rude the knight is being to her and gives him the ultimatum of loyalty over beauty.
  • "You have two choices...To have me old and ugly till I die, But still a loyal, true, and humble wife...Or would you rather I were young and pretty And chance your arm what happens in a city,"(291).
  • "My lady and my love, my dearest wife, I leave the matter to your wise decision,"(291).
  • Scene IX: The knight lets the old hag choose whether her loyalty will bring them more honor or her beauty.
  • Scene X: The old hag gets what all women desire, a man whom they have control over. She turns into a beautiful woman and they live happily ever after.
